Margaret M. Burns

Margaret M. Burns was born February 20, 1920 to William Gilmore and Jennie Hayden. She was the wife of former Mayor of Pawtucket and Rhode Island Secretary of State Robert F. Burns and the mother Robert W. Burns Mother in Law of Lori A Burns and proud grandmother of Kristen & Meaghan Burns. She also leaves behind her nephews Michael Farrell & Patrick Burns and nieces Marti, Paula Robin and Peggy.

Peg was born in the Elmwood section of Providence and attended The Assumption School. She graduated from Classical High School where she was an honor student in both English literature and Latin. Following graduation from Classical, Peg graduated from The Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School.

Peg was employed by the federal government in Washington DC as a secretary for the FBI. She later returned to Rhode Island and was employed by the United Transit Company now know as RIPTA as Executive Secretary. She also was employed as a legal secretary at Edwards & Angell.

She was married to Robert F. Burns in August of 1959 and spent her life attending to her husband her son and her grandchildren.

The funeral for Mrs. Burns will be Saturday, August 21, at 9:00am from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa"s Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket at 10:00am. Her burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. The calling hours for Mrs. Burns will be Friday 4-7pm in the funeral home. For online condolences please visit www.manningheffern.com.
