John F. Rogers, 65, of Rumford, died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.  Born in Providence, John was the son of the late Frank and Helen (Murphy) Rogers.  John earned his bachelor’s degree and his M.B.A. from Providence College.  He was the Associate Director, Food Service, for the R.I. Department of Corrections.  He was married for nearly 43 years to the love of his life, Jackie.  Their devotion was unwavering, and he would have moved Heaven and Earth if he thought it would make her smile.

An Eagle Scout, John volunteered as a Scout Master for his son’s troop, enjoying many hours camping and helping to instill honor, honesty, and dedication in his troop members.  He coached his son’s soccer team and his daughter’s softball team, and he loved seeing his children and their friends grow and learn.  His commitment to his family never faltered and as his family grew, he  enjoyed inviting his daughter’s college friends over for home cooked meals.  He loved visiting with Andy, Sarah, and their children, with whom he spent countless hours acting silly.  He was thrilled when his daughter married Shaun last November and he loved holidays with his son-in-law and the O’Brien clan.

The master of “dad-jokes,” John was quick-witted and took pleasure in making people laugh.  He was a gentleman in the truest sense and words cannot describe how intensely he is missed.  He will never be forgotten.  He leaves his wife, Jackie (West); his son and daughter-in-law Andy and Sarah Rogers; and his daughter and son-in-law, Kate and Shaun O’Brien.  John also leaves his three grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.  In addition, John is survived by his siblings: Stephen Rogers (Nancy Fewell); Thomas Rogers; Nancy (Don) Lafleur; Connie Rogers; his brother-in-law, Robert Tarro, M.D.; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary E. Tarro.

A wake will be held on Monday, June 20, from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave, Rumford, RI.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Dr. Joseph Antin Research Fund, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
