I was looking for info on Mr. Duffy and learned of his passing. Being involved in athletics my whole life of course I ran into George as he was running an indoor soccer league many years ago in West Warwick. A true gentleman was he and devoted to sports in all their levels of competitions and their differing hues and shades. George was truly a natural resource for the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations....he was as unique as our State's name. God Bless,

Dear Helen,
One of my regrets in life is that circumstances did not allow you and George to be part of it.
i know how much you will miss your George along with countless others.
He was exceptionally special and touched so many lives positively.
He will remain in your heart --you will feel it.
I wish I could express my feelings to you personally but health issues prevent me from attending the services.
I'll always remember your visit when my Jack died.
God bless and help you,Helen.
Love and prayers

P.S. I just realized that this message had not been sent from my email account. I hope you are healing day by day.

Helen,

I was deeply saddened to read today of George's passing. My deepest
sympathy to you and the entire Duffy family.

My memories of you and George at 20 Brewster Street go back probably
over 60 years. I was fortunate to have the pleasure of meeting you and
George in August, 2013, at the annual Providence Reds Heritage event at
Goddard Park which brought back to me these memories.

George's commitment to the youth of Pawtucket is unparrelled. I am sure he
he had a positive influence on innumerable youth over many decades. Your
and George are both to be commended in this regard.

May God bless George.

I'm proud to have called Mr. Duffy a friend, and to have had him as a contemporary in the media industry. But perhaps more than anything else, I learned from him some of the how-and-why of coaching and mentoring kids, and that's a tremendous legacy he's left behind. My thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Duffy and the family, and I promise Mr. Duffy - I will keep the sports parade moving, by being a good sport.

So sorry to hear of George's passing, I worked with George at the bus company for several years and he always had a smile on his face and never a harsh word spoken to anyone he passed. Mr. Duffy was one of the first folks I encountered when I joined the Saints family. He used to drive one of the smaller busses that we had at the time. He was taking one of the teams to a game. The bus was sandwiched in a parking spot. He backed out and it looked as if he might hit the back of the car directly across from the bus (my car). He managed to pull the bus out of that tight spot without a scratch to anything beside or behind him. Both the team and I were amazed at how well he did. As he backed up, he opened the window and waved to me with a big smile on his face, almost as if to say "NO PROBLEM." He seemed to be at most, if not all, of the sporting events I attended. The students always seemed to be in awe of him and showed him the respect he earned and deserved. He will be missed. He touched a lot of hearts and minds of so many people over the years. I consider myself blessed to have had him touch my life. God Bless Mr. Duffy and condolences to your family.

To see George at work w/the many generations of children and families he touched, was to see someone who had a multi-level passion for what he did. George had fire, but he had gentleness and a fatherly way with each young one, even calling them "son." He knew how to bring out he best in "his kids." He cared about the sports but also each one under his care. He was a great example of sportsmanship and doing what was right to impressionable young minds. A great loss. But hoping and believing that those things he instilled in the young ones somehow, some where lives on still...in many places...

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time of loss. Both you and George played a huge role in our family that I will never forget. I cannot go to a game at Chase Field in Arizona without thinking about Mr. Duffy and his friend Roland. It was this past Friday 5/22 I was at a Diamondbacks game and thinking of him, only to have you calling Mom on Sunday with the sad news. It was such an honor and privilege to have known him and your family.
