We are saddened to announce the passing away of Sophie (Sotirelis) Ganosel, 96, of Pawtucket who passed into eternal life on June 19, 2021. She was the wife of the late Henry Ganosel.
Sophie was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Sotirios Sotirelis and Erasmia (Kouvatis) Sotirelis. She was the sister of the late William and James Sotirelis of Brockton. She and her husband owned and operated the Thrifty 5&10 on Mineral Spring Avenue and on Broadway in Pawtucket and at University Heights Shopping Center in Providence for 50 years.
Sophie loved to celebrate the holidays with her family. She was a long-time parishioner at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where she
enchanted the Assumption parish each Sunday with her beautiful voice as a member of the Assumption choir.
Mrs. Ganosel is survived by her children Gail Tortolani and her husband Alan of Harrisville, Demi Riggs of South Kingstown, Cindy Ganosel and her husband John Microulis of South Kingstown, and Pamela Hayes and her husband Glenn of Westerly. She had nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
There will be a funeral service for Mrs. Ganosel on Friday, June 25th at 11:00 am in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 97 Walcott Street, Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Visitation for Sophie will be from 10:00 am on Friday in the Church, prior to the service at 11.
