Sister Anne Marie McInnis

Sister Anne Marie McInnis of the Order of Discalced Carmelite Nuns passed over through death to fullness of Life on February 7, 2022, at the Marie Esther Health Center in Marlborough, MA.  Anne Marie was a member of the Carmelite community formerly located in Barrington, RI.  She entered the monastery in Barrington on March 17, 1960 and lived her vocation there until early October, 2020 when it was necessary for the community to move to other places.

Anne Marie was born to Gertrude (Ford) and James McInnis on July 28, 1937 in South Boston, MA.  She was one of six children – four girls and two boys, a loving, caring family.  After two years at Merrimack College in North Andover, MA, she followed the direction of her desire to enter the Order of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

Though limited with heart trouble, she shared her “heart” with many who came to the monastery for prayer and/or sharing their faith journey together.   Living her daily life In Christ in worship, prayer and community formed her for oneness with others.  In times of suffering she saw the Will of God not as the cause of suffering, but as the power to bring her through it with new life.  She believed, she knew that God wills only our good.

Sister Anne Marie of the Will of God, OCD, will be missed.  Separation by death has its own unique emotion and pain, but even in sadness we believe that “…life is changed, not ended…”  Hope and love call to mind what Jesus said, “I AM the resurrection and the life.  Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live…”  Jn. 11:25

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Sr. Anne Marie on Saturday, February 12th, at 11:00 am in St. Luke’s Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington, the calling hour will be from 10 to 11 A.M., prior to the Mass. The burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, RT. 114, East Providence.  In place of flowers, donations may be made in Sister Anne Marie’s memory to the Breast Cancer Society.
