Alice Henry Wynne, 96, of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on September 14, at her home of 65 years with family members by her side. Alice was born in 1922 in Pawtucket to William and Jane (McLinden) Henry. She was married for over 60 years to the late William H. Wynne, Jr and was a communicant of St. Leo/ St. Pope John Paul II Parish. After graduating in 1944 from the Rhode Island College of Education she taught at North School, Seekonk, Massachusetts for 35 years.
Alice loved traveling and camped throughout the United States and Canada with her husband and children and when they had moved on they toured Europe, cruised the Caribbean, and enjoyed a month in Florida in the winter. She loved the Boston Red Sox and was an avid fan at the baseball and basketball games of her sons. She encouraged her children in their scouting activities, becoming a Cub Scout den mother herself.
She is mother to Jane Houle of Pawtucket, William H. Wynne III of Charlestown, RI, and the late John Wynne. She was the mother in law to Gerald Houle, Gabriel Wynne, and Denice Wynne. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Her sister was the late Eileen Moore.
The family is very grateful to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of Rhode Island and in lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be sent to their office at 1085 North Main Street, Providence, Rhode Island, 02904. Another option for donations is the Deacon Fund at St. John Paul II Parish, 697 Central Avenue, Pawtucket, 02861. The weekly visits when she became housebound were very welcome.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Alice on Tuesday, September 18th at 11:00 am in Blessed John Paul II Church, 697 Central Avenue, Pawtucket .Her calling hours will be Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until 10:30 am in the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket.
