Thomas "Tim" Edward Evans

October 8, 1931 ~ September 20, 2015 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Thomas “Tim” Edward Evans, 83, of Rehoboth passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015. He was the husband of the late Mitzie Evans.  Tim was born on October 8, 1931 in East Providence, RI to the late Charles E. and Edith (Olson) Evans who were immigrants from England and Sweden respectively. He attended East Providence High School and then graduated from Moses Brown School in 1950. He graduated from Brown University in 1954. Like so many others, his college years were interrupted by Army service. He was stationed in New Jersey as part of the Corps of Engineers during active duty and later served in the Rhode Island National Guard. Tim and his wife Muriel “Mitzie” Kinney Evans were married for 55 years. Together, they built their family home in Rehoboth where they remained lifelong residents.

Known for his ingenuity, Tim was an Engineer at Texas Instruments from 1957-1983 and his name appears on six US patents. He was later President of the Evans Findings Co., a family business and retired in 2000. In his spare time, he brought his competitive sailing experience from the Brown Sailing Team to Bristol Yacht Club and for 25 years, he could be seen cruising Narragansett Bay and beyond on “MITIME.” He was a member of the Rehoboth Congregational Church. He traveled extensively for business and pleasure through Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. He loved old songs and Stilton cheese and hot chocolate.  He was a master craftsman of beautiful furniture and woodcarvings. His “best pals” were his many dogs; his most recent favorite was his dachshund Tomte.

Tim is survived by: son David Evans and his wife Jenay of Seekonk, MA; daughter Susan Evans of Rehoboth, MA; son Peter Evans and his wife Lisa of Providence, RI. He also leaves a sister Claire Dewey of Portland, TX. He was the proud grandfather of Kara Evans, Katie Goldman, Kelly Evans, Thomas Evans, Michael Evans, Sara Evans, Patrick McClain, Alyssa Evans, Kirsten Evans, Katherine McClain, and Hannah Evans and great-grandfather of Adalyn Evans and Harriet Goldman. His son John Evans and daughter-in-law Penny Evans formerly of Rehoboth, MA, preceded him in death.

There will be a memorial service for Mr. Evans on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Rehoboth Congregational Church, 139 Bay State Road, Rehoboth, Massachusetts. Relatives and friends are invited.
