Robert Foster Almeida

Robert Foster Nolan Almeida, 82, of Lincoln and Boca Raton, Florida passed away peacefully on August 29, 2016 at Tockwotton on the Waterfront after a courageous battle with a brain injury suffered following surgery in 2013.  Mr. Almeida was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Foster Almeida and Sarah (Nolan) Almeida.

He is survived by his children; Robert Almeida and his wife Mary Ann of Norton, Massachusetts, and Amybeth Dunphy and her husband Patrick of Attleboro, Massachusetts. He was the loving and devoted grandfather of Kyle and Colleen Almeida. A great joy in his life.
He also leaves his brother John Almeida and his wife Kathleen of Jamestown, Rhode Island and his sister Jane Sabourin and her husband Glenn of Lincoln, Rhode Island. Robert leaves his devoted and caring partner Ann Adessi. He had many loving nieces and nephews.  Robert was the brother of the late Eleanor Lisi and her husband Thomas.
 
He graduated from Pawtucket West High School and attended the University of Wyoming. He was a veteran of the United States Air force, proudly serving his country.
He co-founded the Oak Hill Nursing Home in Pawtucket. Robert was a problem solver who could always figure out a way to get something done. Many family members and friends would call him first to help with various projects. He was known to work diligently until the completion of a job.

While Robert lived in Riverside he purchased and renovated numerous waterfront homes. He was a member of various beautification committees and was very active in the beach clean-ups of Narragansett Bay. Preservation of the environment was important to Robert. He taught his children, grandchildren nieces and nephews to “Always leave a place cleaner than they found it.”  Robert loved to travel. He traveled to over thirty countries and participated in volunteer projects in Argentina, Brazil, India, Korea and the Philippines for Habitat for Humanity, and to Bulgaria and Hungary for Earthwatch Expeditions.  Robert loved all sports and was an avid Patriots fan.

The funeral for Mr. Almeida will be Thursday at 8:00 am from the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence at 9:00 am. His burial with full Military Honors will be in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket. The calling hours for Robert will be Wednesday from 4-7 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 121  Habitat Street, Americus, Georgia, 31709 or the Holy Family Home, St. Anthony Church, 5 Gibbs Street, North Providence, R.I. 02904 in Robert’s memory.
