Mary Josephine "Joan" Dawson, 95 formerly of Pawtucket and most recently of Elmhurst Extended Care in Providence died on November 6, 2014. She was the wife of the late George W. Dawson.
Joan was born in Providence, the daughter of the late James F. Cullen and Delia (McCabe) Cullen. She was a recruiter for the Army Air Corp in WWII serving in Nashville TN. After the war Joan was a secretary for the principal at Jenks Jr. High School in Pawtucket. She was also employed at the Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket in medical records and the volunteered at the Veterans Hospital in Providence.
Mrs. Dawson is survived by her longtime companion, Charles Morrill. She also her sons, James W. Dawson and his companion Victoria Troxell of Providence and Brad S. Dawson and his wife Olivita of Weaverville, North Carolina. She also leaves her sister Patricia Moran of Pennsylvania and her granddaughter Cara Dawson of Virginia. Joan was the sister of the late Leo Cullen.
The funeral for Mrs. Dawson will be Monday at 9:00 am from the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa''s Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket at 10:00 am. Her burial will be in the Rhode Island Veteran''s Cemetery, Exeter.
