Welcome to the memorial page for

Margaret Anne (Flynn) Kirwan

September 5, 1935 ~ October 13, 2016 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Kirwan, Margaret Anne (Flynn), 81, of Rumford, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016 surrounded by her children. She was the wife of 50 years of the late Thomas W. Kirwan.

Peg was born September 5, 1935 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the only child of Henrietta (Litts) and Matthew Flynn. She attended St. Joseph’s Commercial High School and worked as an executive secretary for National Distillers and Chemical Company, Manhattan, before her marriage to Thomas Kirwan in 1960. Peg and Tom enjoyed 50 years of marriage, family, dancing and travel before Tom’s death in 2010.

Peg and Tom raised three children in Staten Island, N.Y. Peg was an involved member of her children’s school and parish community of St. Adalbert’s in Elm Park. Peg served as president of the Mother’s Club, chair of the Parish Catholic Charity Appeal, Eucharistic minister, Girl Scout leader and ceramics teacher in the after school program. She was the school librarian at St. Adalbert’s for many years and worked at Macy’s in Staten Island before her retirement and move to Rhode Island in 2004.

After the loss of her husband, Peg moved to Epoch (now Wingate) Assisted Living where she was often the unofficial greeter at the front desk and a contributor to the community’s newsletter with her submissions of poetry and reflections. A self-described “people person”, Peg enjoyed the new friends she made after her move to the Ocean State, as well as keeping up with her old friends from Staten Island as long as she was able. She enjoyed ceramics, bowling, reading and a good game of Scrabble.

Peg is survived by her children, Christine (Michael) Rogers of Rumford, R.I., Thomas (Donna) of Mesa, Ariz., and John (Leslie) of Brownwood, Tex. To her grandchildren she was “G-Ma” and she will be greatly missed by Michael, Matthew, Margaret, Katherine, Anne and Daniel Rogers, and Lena and Erin Kirwan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret Guglielmelli and her niece and nephew Donna (Carl) Bak and Alfred (Tami) Guglielmelli. She also leaves her grandnephew, Stephen.

The funeral for Mrs. Kirwan will be Monday at 9:00 am from the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 1098 Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford at 10:00 am. Her burial will be in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket.
