Helen F. Duffy Mulcahey, 95, passed away on April 21st at North Bay Manor in Smithfield.  She was the beloved wife of the late Edward “Ted” Mulcahey, former sports editor of The Pawtucket Times.

 

Born in Pawtucket, Helen was the daughter of the late Edward and Marie (Hall) Duffy, Sr., and had lived most of her life as a resident of that city before moving to Brightview Commons in Wakefield, and most recently, to North Bay Manor.

 

A communicant of St. Teresa Church in Pawtucket, Helen was a member of the senior citizen’s group and a past president of the St. Teresa School Mothers’ Club.  During World War II she worked for the War Department in Arlington, VA.

 

Helen will be remembered for her lively wit, sharp intellect, and her love of card, word, and board games, played with her children, many grandchildren, and her fellow residents at Brightview Commons.

 

She is survived by her nine children, four sons: Edward “Ted” and his wife Patte of Bellevue, WA, Michael G. and his wife Judi of Pawtucket, Richard J. and his wife Laurie Pike of Jamestown, and Kevin J. and his wife Katie of Bristol; and five daughters:  Mary Frances Fox of Pensacola, FL and her husband, the late F. Michael Fox; Eileen M. Courcy and her husband Clement of Manchester, MA; Christine A. Mulcahey and her husband Richard Raggio of Narragansett; Elizabeth Robinson and her husband Tom of Lincoln; and Helen “Holly” McCutcheon and her husband Peter of Smithfield. 

 

Helen is survived also by her brother Gerald E. Duffy of Somerville, NJ, and her grandchildren: Michael, Liz, Chrissy, Maryellen, Pat, Steve, Ted, Julie, Catherine, Annmarie, Nate, Jeb, Allie, Michael, Kristen, Sarah, Matt, Ricky, Kyle, Jillean, Tommy, Teddy, Taylor, Shannon, Kaitlin, Marykatherine, Daniel, Aaron, and Samuel. 

 

In addition, she leaves her great grandchildren: Grace, Cora, Emmett, Anna, Porter, Julia, Lucy, Molly, Emily, Elizabeth, Abigail, Ruby, Kate, Isla, Sadie, Maren, Aubrey, Teddy, Jimmy, Aeddon, Clementine, Nolan, Natalie, Hazel, and Weylyn, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by three brothers:  Joseph P, Edward M., Jr., and Raymond Duffy.

 

The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 25th at 9:00 am from the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., at 10 o’clock  Burial  will be in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours for Helen will be Friday from 4-7 pm.
