Gertrude Irene Ireland

Gertrude Irene (Long) Ireland, who was a long time resident of Pawtucket RI, went to be with her Lord, husband and son on August 4, 2017 in Westborough, MA at the age of 88.   Beloved wife, mother, nana, aunt and friend, she was a woman of great faith and unconditional love. 

Gertrude was born July 1, 1929 and lived in Attleboro, MA, until she married her longtime sweetheart, Harold.  They were happily married for 67 years.  Throughout their life together they were known for their many celebrations and parties that brought family and friends together.  They also had many adventures taking them around the world. 

Gertrude was a case worker for the Department of Social Services in Pawtucket.  She served as president of the RI chapter of the PTA, and was active at Darlington Congregational Church serving faithfully as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher. 

Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Harold John Ireland and her son,  Skip. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Ireland) Cloutier and her husband Robert of Hopkinton, MA, and her daughter, Karen Ireland and her husband Lee Lessard of Dracut MA and her daughter in law, Lori (Almeda) Ireland.  She was also very much loved by her grandchildren, Jessica, Emily, Daniel, Rebekah and Lindsay as well as six great-grandchildren.  They were honored to have been by her bed-side giving hugs, telling stories and singing hymns during her last precious days.  She also leaves many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.

Visiting hours will be held from 8:30-9:30 on Saturday, August 19th at Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI followed by her burial at Oak Knoll Cemetery.   There will be a celebration of her life at 11:30 at Darlington Congregational Church, 685 Central Avenue, Pawtucket Saturday morning after the burial.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Darlington Congregational Church.
