Francis D Burke

December 8, 1927 ~ March 14, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old


Francis D. Burke, 89, of Pawtucket and formerly of Seekonk, Massachusetts passed into eternal life on March 14, 2017. He was the husband of the late Frances E. (Matonis) Burke who predeceased him in 2015.

Mr. Burke was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Francis D. Burke and Beatrice (St. John) Burke. He was Veteran of the Korean War where he served in the United States Navy. While in the Navy Mr. Burke served on the VGS Bontfil Hospital Ship in the South Pacific. They were stationed off the coast of the Bikini Attol Island and were witnesses to the atomic bomb testing in 1947.

Mr. Burke is survived by his children; Edward Burke of Lincoln, Cynthia Gabarra and her husband Alfred of Barrington, Sandra Fitton and her husband Dave of Rumford, Sheila Burke of Balston Spa, New York. He also leaves his brother, Bertram “Bud” Burke of North Carolina. Mr. Burke leaves seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was the father of the late Donna Aguiar, and Susan Burke. He was the brother of the late Beatrice McGuinness, Raymond Burke and Delores Burke and Carol Burbach.

The Funeral for Mr. Burke will be Saturday, March 18th at 9:00 am from the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa’s Church, 358 Newport Avenue at 10:00 am. His burial will be with full Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. The calling hours for Francis will be Friday from 4-7 pm in the funeral home. www.manningheffern.com.
