Bernardino Pita

July 22, 1926 ~ September 28, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Bernardino Pita, 91, formerly of Pawtucket passed away at the Roberts Health Center on September 28, 2017.  He was the husband of the late Mary Lourdes (Paiva) Pita.  They had been married for 63 years. Bernardino was a son to the late Antonio and Umbelina Pita.

Mr. Pita was a proud member of the greatest generation, serving his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre, after which he worked for forty years at the American Insulated Wire Corporation as a foreman.   He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pawtucket and the Pawtucket Portuguese Social Club. After his retirement, he was a member of Active Seniors of Pawtucket, but had the greatest time of his life during his 30 year retirement spending time as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He also enjoyed his daily routine of reading, puzzles of all kinds and watching his favorite television shows. 

Bernardino will be greatly missed by his children, Raymond Pita and his wife Patricia of Rumford, Dennis Pita and his wife Rebecca of Ohio and Leslie Buckley of North Kingstown, with whom he lived, his grandchildren, Matthew Pita and his wife Lisa, Daniel Pita, Kaitlin Wilson and her husband Kyle, David Buckley and Meghan Buckley, and six great-grandchildren, Megan, Emily, Ryan, Maggie, Molly and Hadley. He also leaves two brothers John Pita and Joseph Mello and a sister Leonora Donovan.  He is predeceased by his son-in-law David Buckley, (USAF Ret), a brother Manuel Pita and sister Gloria Andrade.

The funeral for Mr. Pita will be Tuesday, October 3rd  at 9:00 AM from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Church, 32 Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket. His burial with full military honors will immediately follow in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket.  Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernardino’s name to either St. Anthony’s Church, 32 Lawn Avenue, Pawtucket, RI or Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02903.  For online condolences, please visit www.manningheffern.com.
